On Saturday July 17, bathed in warm light, a crowded second floor in the Logan Square Boys and Girls Club was the setting for the Jawbreakers first invitational boxing match.
The contenders "El Club Galdiador" were flown in direct from San German Puerto Rico where the Jawbreakers will be going at the end of the month.
This has been in the planning for a long time so its a real pleasure to finally be here, and we look forward to having them visit us for the festival. Said the Galdiador coach Roberto Collazo.
Chief architects of this event were JawBreaker Coach Robinson Ayala, MIgdalia "mickey" Ayala and Sotero "Junior" Hernandez with help from Club President Roberto Nieves.
On hand for the fight among the local celebs were pro trainer Sam Colonna and the well known super middle weight Fearless Fernando Hernandez.
We are going to see some good fights hear today. said Hernandez take my word for it, these kids are tough.
Though it got off to a late start, over 20 bouts were held for the crowd of 150 family, friends and fans. This event was truly a success, an endorsement of the vital and growing boxing scene in Chicago.
