Brewster gets ready to take a bite out of the White Wolf

By David Loew

Its been almost a year since Lamon Brewster fought in Chicago defending his WBO title against Andrew Golata which ended in dramatic a 53 second smackdown. So what has Lamon been up to since then?

In September he fought Luan Krasniqi in Hamburg, Germany commemorating Max Schmellings 100 year birthday.

It was a tough fight and Krasniqi was ahead in points until the 8 th round when Brewster floored him with a powerful left hook but Krasniqi was saved by a long-count which took him into the next round. Still behind in points Brewster knew he had to take him down.   With 12 seconds remaining he nailed Krisniqi with a final hard right that ended the fight.   It's just this kind of comeback that gives Lamon "Relentless" Brewster his name.

I spoke with Brewster yesterday and got an update on some of the changes.   It looks like he had made an almost clean sweep, with a new publicist, trainer, and even a new city.

He has moved from LA and is now training out of Vero Beach, Florida, trading Jessie Reid for Buddy Mc Girt. When asked about the change Brewster said " I just made a business decision that's all it is.

Finally Brewster's long time Manager Sam Simon and creator of the Simpson seems to be out of the picture. "I don't have a manager, I have a negotiator Al Hayman."

When asked If he was still on good terms with Simon he said, "Well I'd rather not even discuss that to be totally honest with you.   I'd rather leave that area blank."

So what's up next?   On April 1 st Lamon Brewster will make the 4 th defense of his title be fighting Sergei "The White Wolf'' Liakhovich at the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Liakhovich originally from Minsk, Byelorussia trains out of Scottsdale, Ariz. A tough fighter with considerable skills he represented Russia in the 96 Olympics. He now has an impressive record of (22-1, 14 KOs).

Brewster who has won his last 14 fights is my bet to win this one. What does Brewster say? " I never underestimate anyone."
